Situational Writing

Hi children,

Below is the answer for your homework:

Dear Aunt Sue,

How have you been?

Kevin's birthday is coming. I would like to give him a treat to celebrate his birthday for him.

I would like to take him to the Esplanade Recital Studio (1 mark) to watch a performance 'The Boy Who Touched The Moon' on the afternoon of 31 August (1 mark).

The story is about a boy who tries to touch the moon with his own reflection (1 mark). The performance is very popular as the previous three performances were sold out (1 mark).

If you would like to find out more about the performance, you can sms to 75566 to download the programme's details onto your mobile phone (1 mark).

I feel that Kevin will benefit from watching this performance as he will get to learn how to cast animal shadows using his hands and fingers (1 mark). It will be a fun and enjoyable experience for him!

I hope you will let me take him to the performance. Please let me know your reply soon.

With love,
Ivan

Dear children, You are invited to write one of the following essays with not more than 500 words.

1) A short story on the consequences of drug abuse beginning with the following phrase:

"I thought it would not happen to me ..."

Cue: You can use this as a flashback to start your story eg. "I thought it would not happen to me. I have always seen glue-sniffing as a bad habit which I should never even try. It all started with an innocent invitation to Bryan's new house at Yishun Condominium."

2) A short story on glue sniffing with the help of a picture of a young man sniffing a packet of glue in an alley.

Cue: You can write a story about a teenage boy who went astray and picked up glue-sniffing after he befriended friends outside his school.

3) A short story that includes all of the following words:

friends arrested destroy drug rehabilitation centre family future glue-sniffing heartbroken

Cue: You can write a story about a teenage boy who was diligent and helpful. However, he went astray and picked up glue-sniffing after he befriended friends who encouraged him to play truant (skip school). His family asked him to leave this group of friends but he did not listen to them. His relationship with his family was destroyed.

Subsequently, his friends encouraged him to steal items from 7-eleven convenience stores, and eventually, coaxed him into glue-sniffing. However, one day, the police raided the alley they were hiding in and arrested his friends and him.

His mother was heartbroken. He was sent to a drug rehabilitation centre. His future was ruined.

(Please do not copy what I have written. It is an example.)
